Sony Learns From Apple’s Mistakes

Apple did a great job with the App Store, creating a platform with an enormous variety of content at an affordable price, from beer simulators to really awesome games. But it has a problem, namely the way applications get the approval stamp. Its really an hit and miss deal, with some apps getting denied for having offensive content, while others with more offensive stuff being approved for some unknown reason. The same applies, for example, to using other companies IP’s without permission, some get away with it, others don’t.
Sony is going to do things differently: games will go through a quality assurance test to see if it is playable, everything else, as in explicit content or trademark infringement is up to the developer. If its not suitable, its up to the developer to face the consequences. This means no more randomly disapproved games. Not only this but developers aren’t going to have bandwidth charges and are going to be paid every month without poor sales penalties.

Several years in the making, the long awaited English patch for the cult classic Policenauts (PSX version) gets released. Now the rest of the world can play this gem of a game without the need of several FAQ’s and guides. Getting the patch to work may not be very complicated, but getting a legitimate copy nowadays might be a little tricky. Your best bet is trying to snag a PSX copy from eBay.

Project Natal Will Solve EVERYTHING!

Fishy!
George Andreas, RARE design director explained to VideoGamer.com how and why motion controls is serious biz:
I do feel in many ways that – and I’ve said this to some people as well – for me this is really the first time that Microsoft and Rare are on a very similar path. We’ve obviously been tasked to create experiences that nobody else can create, which explains things like your Kameos and your Piñatas and your Banjos. But obviously the hardware is aimed at a different demographic, and so we’ve always battled against that.
Whereas now with Natal, it looks like the roads are on the same path. It’s a union of the two philosophies of the different companies, I guess. Natal is supposed to reach out to a broader audience and a broader consumer, and Rare’s products are always aiming in that direction as well. So from that perspective the future looks incredibly bright for us really. It’s definitely something everyone’s enthused about and energized about.
Are developers like Rare putting way to much faith in Natal? Maybe this will in fact work, who knows, but I just don’t see how they are so certain that this will bring a wider audience to the XBOX 360 with everyone and their mothers already owning a Wii.
